Bickel, Nadav

Son of Yishayahu and Rachel. Born on 28 August 1957 in Kibbutz Lohamei Hagetaot, Nadav studied at the Bialik Elementary School in Kiryat Bialik and joined the Mahanot Ha’olim movement in the fifth grade and continued his activities in this movement until his enlistment in the army. After completing his elementary studies, Nadav continued his studies at the Samet High School in Haifa. He chose the mechanics track out of a desire to better understand this professional field, so that when the time came, he would be able to integrate As part of his father’s work in the operation of heavy equipment. Nadav found a great interest in this field, and his vacations, and especially his last vacation before he enlisted in the IDF, made him a tractor worker: Nadav was a quiet, modest, and sometimes shy boy, and a model of good graciousness. The captivating beauty of his exterior, with everything touched by his hand, aspired to precision and completeness, and Nadav was found to be active and playful. He was known for his pranks, but from every bad situation he knew how to get away with his warm and charming kindness and smile. The main sports branches that dealt with them during this period were volleyball (he was part of the school team in this branch), swimming, sailing and hiking. He was also a music buff. Nadav was drafted into the IDF at the end of October 1975. He wanted to reach the Paratroopers Brigade out of the feeling that the unit could produce its maximum capability, But he continued to cling to the paratroopers, and he had no trouble acquiring many friends in the army, and his soul remained attached to him for the duration of his service, and he stood out in his ability to tell jokes and imitate people’s voices and desires. The Admissions Committee of the Paratroopers’ Corps was impressed by its personality: “I was impressed by his emotional stability, his tone of voice Safe and clear answers. And most of all I was impressed by his willingness to deal with the difficulties that were expected. “He successfully dealt with all the hardships and obstacles that stand in the way of a parachutist, and underwent various courses, such as paratroopers, squadrons and snipers. When he entered the officers’ course, it was his great desire to return to his battalion. Together with two members of his army career, with whom he maintained ties of loyalty and devotion, and at the outset set up a splendid company in their battalion. This aspiration, as well as his dream of integrating after his discharge from the army, in his father’s work, was cut off in the middle – by an airplane accident. Nadav fell during his service – on the 12th of Tishrei 5739 (24.9.1977). He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. Survived by his parents and two sisters. After his death, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel.
