Bentov (Bentowitz) and Yosef


Son of Naomi and Nathan, was born on November 30, 1925, in Nahalal. At the beginning of the War of Independence he joined the combat forces, toured the Hermon region and fought in the battles of Mishmar HaYarden, Kfar Hahoresh, Tirat Zvi, Beit Keshet and the Jordan Valley front. Was one of the thirty who volunteered to go at night to the mountains and sabotage the heavy weapons of the enemy. In all the battles he showed dedication, willingness and enthusiasm for action. Did not know fear and participated in any difficult task. Was one of the conquerors of Ramla and Lod. He studied artillery, was discovered as an excellent gunner and gunner and was appointed by his commander in charge of a cannon. In a face-to-face clash with the Arab Legion in Beit Nabala, he captured a heavy Jordanian-Jordanian armored vehicle, repaired it, and even succeeded in driving it. The armored vehicle was attached to the heavy vehicles of the Israel Defense Forces, and in this armored vehicle he sat in his last operations in a convoy that broke through the Negev. Joseph was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Nahalal.
