Ben-Yehuda, Avshalom (Avshi)
Avshalom, son of Hanan and Nuri Son of-Yehuda, was born on January 24, 1955, in Kibbutz Ein Shemer. Avshalom was drafted into the IDF in May 1975 and volunteered for the infantry as a parachutist. After basic training he underwent a parachuting course. On 6 Adar II, March 15, 1978, Avshalom fell in battle in southern Lebanon, heading for battle with the terrorists who had barricaded themselves in the village of Maroun al-Ras, a battle that took place following the terrorists’ raid on the bus on the coastal road. Avshalom did not cease to encourage all those around him and guide them in the battle. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Kibbutz Ein Shemer, and left behind his parents and two brothers.
