Ben-Shaanan, Yaakov

Yaakov, son of Zohara and Meir Son of-Shaanan, was born in the city of Casablanca in Morocco in 1944. In 1956 he immigrated to Israel with his family. He was drafted into the IDF in May 1961 and served as a soldier in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). He married Jacqueline in 1967, and served as a driver in a transport unit. He was killed in combat in Lebanon due to hostile terrorist activity. A car bomb blew up inside a convoy of jeeps, which was returning soldiers from the security zone. Yaakov was hit and killed. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Holon. Survived by a wife, four children, a father, three sisters and a brother.
