Ben-Dror, Shimon

Shimon, son of Shulamit and Aharon Son of-Dror, was born on May 30, 1951 in Sde Nehemia (Huliot). Shimon was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in late October 1971. He was a good soldier, loved by his comrades and commanders, and was sent to an officer’s course at the officers’ school. On the first day of the Yom Kippur War, on October 6, 1973, Shimon was injured and killed and he was among the fighters whose burial place was unknown. Memorials were erected in his memory at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. He left behind a mother and brother. After his fall, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, Defense Minister Moshe Dayan wrote that Shimon was “a good, dedicated and responsible officer.”
