Son of Esther and Isaiah. After a month, his department was transferred to Kfar Sirkin, from where it was sent to Kfar Hess and Kfar Yavetz. Joseph participated in raids on the enemy’s transport lines, in the conquest of Hiriya, Salameh, and Kfar Saba Arab. With the entry of the Arab Legion into the fighting, Jerusalem’s situation worsened and the road to it was cut off by the Legion system in Latrun. Operation “Son of-Nun A”, held on the night of May 24-25, 1948, was intended to break through the road to Jerusalem. His battalion was assigned to conquer Latrun. The attacking force encountered better enemy forces and had to retreat. In the midst of the harsh retreat, in view of the enemy’s superiority and harsh weather conditions, many of the fighters fell, among them Yosef, who fell on the 15th of Iyar 5708 (May 25, 1948). On the 17th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949) he was transferred to the eternal military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
