Ben-David (Barry), Gideon
Son of Lili and David, was born in 1928 in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. However, the massacre and disturbances that took place in Baghdad during the reign of Rashid Ali al-Kilani in 1941, and the decrees of oppression and dispossession imposed on the Jews even in the subsequent regime, revealed to him humiliations The abyss of my life in bondage and exile and he decided to free himself from them. Gideon joined a small circle of Zionists and Hebrew students in the underground and in the summer of 1945 disguised himself as an Arab and thus passed through Iraq, Syria and Transjordan and immigrated to Israel. He spent one year in training at Kibbutz Maoz Haim and half an year in Alonim. After the War of Independence, he joined the Hagana service and served with convoy convoys to Jerusalem and to fill it in. Gideon was killed in a special operation, the date of his fall was the ninth of Tevet 5708 (22.12.1947). His burial place is unknown. Gravestones in his memory were erected in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem and on Kibbutz Be’eri. In September 2004, the bodies of Gideon Son of David and David Shemesh were found and buried in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl.
