Belkind, Naaman


Son of Penina and Shimshon. He was born in 1888 in Gedera, his mother was the daughter of AM Freiman, one of the first founders of Rishon Letzion, and his father was a member of Bilu. Na’aman began receiving his education in the first Hebrew kindergarten in Rishon Letzion and later in the first Hebrew school in the village. One day, Avshalom Feinberg and Yosef Lishansky went out to Egypt for a mission, and Avshalom disappeared in the desert, while Yosef returned, and on the orders of Aharon Aaronsohn , a leader of the resistance, told Feinberg took the course in officer training in England. Naaman doubted the credibility of a report by Joseph and tried himself to cross the line and get to the British in Egypt. Naaman was brought to Damascus and accused of spying, season In jail and then sentenced to hanging. He was hanged along with a friend Yosef,, on 1 Tevet (16/12/1917). He left a wife and a son. The bones of the two gallows were brought to Eretz Israel after the British conquest and were buried in Rishon Letzion on October 24, 1919. Fifty years later, Na’aman Belkind was recognized as a martyr of the State of Israel and more than 60 years after his death, his family was awarded the Nili Medal for his activities in this underground.
