Behar, Israel


Son of Shmuel and Jamila. He was born in the city of Bursa in Turkey on May 12, 1932. He completed his studies in elementary school and immigrated to Israel in 1949. He was a member of Kibbutz Ein Gev until his enlistment in the IDF in June 1950. During his period In the army, he was preparing for a matriculation examination. He served in the permanent army and attained the rank of captain. Planted confidence in his ability in the hearts of his commanders and subordinates. He underestimated the dangers and had great self-confidence. Says and does and does not change his mind and commands – as an excellent commander. But he always found time to talk to his subordinates and listen to their problems. His subordinates rarely – and he himself – went on holiday and during his visits to his home he would communicate emotionally with his wife and children, whom he longed for. But his devotion to work and his role was at the expense of family life, though he was a loving husband and devoted father. He fell in the line of duty on 8 April 1959 and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul, leaving a wife and two children (twins).
