Beety, Shalom (Shula-bia)

Son of Tamar and Yitzhak, was born on February 13, 1924 in Haifa, the second generation in the country, with great dignity and gentleness, good faith and good will, and in his childhood he was operated on several times, , Shalom was educated at the Reali School in Haifa and from there moved to a vocational school, Shalom was accepted into the ranks of the Haganah, and when he was 17, he enlisted in the British army, In addition to his age and the stump in his leg, he underwent a special operation of pain and suffering, serving in El Alamein and an airfield that was constantly bombed, and upon his discharge from the British Army, He was admitted to the Technion and studied for three years in Electrical Engineering, where he joined the Haifa Technion and was assigned to the guide for cars traveling from the valley to Hadar-Hacarmel – a dangerous role, as an open target for Arab snipers from Wadi Rushmia and the Lower City. So he underwent a special operation again so that he could join the IDF. He served in the communications service, in a technical unit in the Negev, as an expert in repairing radio transmitters and as a testimony of his commanders, he was among the first to fulfill every obligation. On the 14th of Tishrei, 5709 (14.10.1948), he was sent to Negba for a transmitter, and on his return to his base, the car he was traveling in went on a mine. He was wounded (fractured skull) and died of his wounds three hours later. Shalom was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Rehovot.
