Becher, Yaakov


Son of Nunida and Moshe, was born on the 13th of Ell, September 18, 1929 in the city of Filipopoli, Bulgaria, where he received a public education. In 1940 he made Aliyah and joined a pioneering youth movement. At the outbreak of the War of Independence, he moved to Jerusalem, and accompanied convoys and took part in battles of the Castel. On the 11th of Nissan 5708 (April 20, 1948) he went to escort a convoy to Jerusalem as part of the “Harel” operation and fell in battle at Sha’ar Hagai. Two days after his fall he was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Anavim. The news of his death was unknown to his family and friends who were searching for him for many months, and it was not until a year and five months later that they discovered the bitter truth.
