Barry, Abraham (Avi)


Son of Naomi and Menachem Bornstein, was born on September 23, 1938 in Petah Tikva. During his studies in high school, Avi participated in the activities of the Gadna Air Force and served as a youth group counselor in his home, Petah Tikva. In 1957, Avi enlisted in the IDF, where he saw his future in the military framework, and after completing his regular army service, he signed up for military service and was sent by the army to France to study the new “tools” that Israel acquired in those days from France. At the age of 28, he was married to Bluma (Farahia), his father’s father, and went to an officer’s course, and when he completed his officer’s course, my father was placed in the Artillery Corps in the Southern Command. My father was a commanding officer, and in his capacity was responsible for the rehabilitation of the tools that took part in the war Ye was born cedar. The birth of the son caused infinite joy to my father. He saw it as a successor, who eventually continue his career in his army. My father continued to serve in the regular army in the Southern Command. In the Yom Kippur War, he was the commander of the Armored Corps in Yasham, and was sent to the front in order to maintain Arik Sharon’s division. At that time he discovered a serious illness that had begun to bother him. The doctors ordered him to rest, but instead my father went to the front and continued his devotion to his duties and filled them with great responsibility while ignoring his problems and pains. After the war he was appointed deputy commanding officer. And again, as after the previous war, my father took it upon himself to return the tools to their proper state and prepare them for action. In his free time, in the evening, he attended a course on public administration. At the height of his activity, my father was appointed commander of the Military Intelligence Corps, a position in which he saw the fulfillment of the aspirations of every excellent munitions officer.After three and a half years in this capacity, Avi was appointed head of a field branch at the Ordnance Ordnance Command. On the day of Tu B’Av 5743 (25.7.1983), my father fell during his service and was put to rest at the military cemetery in Be’er Sheva, leaving behind a wife, two daughters , Son, parents and sister
