Barazani (Sabih Shalom), David


Son of Chaya and Yitzchak was born in the city of Kirkuk, Iraq, to ​​a very religious family in 1925. He studied in the “cheder” and heard Torah from the father, was weak in body but diligent in his studies. One year he left school to help his father work in the store, and in 1946 he joined the pioneering movement that had been established in the underground in Iraq, where he was educated in Hehalutz. David tried to immigrate to Israel through the desert, but was captured by border guards and was forced to return. He served in the Iraqi army, and David tried to immigrate illegally to Israel on May 15, 1947. He returned with his friends to Eretz Yisrael and came to Ashdot Ya’akov to the “Garin Habavly.” David was quiet by nature. He joined the Golani Brigade and served in the Barak Battalion, and took part in the defense operations against Beit Keshet. On the 5th of Adar II, March 16, 1948, he fell while providing aid to a patrol caught in an enemy ambush west of the settlement. David was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Ashdot Yaakov. His memory was included in the collection “Our Spaces”, published by Kibbutz Ashdot-Ya’akov.
