Bar-Nir, Gideon (“Gidi”)


Son of Yaakov and Chana, members of Kibbutz Maabarot. He was born on January 25, 1943 in the kibbutz. He was one of the outstanding students in his studies until he completed the twelfth grade of the school, was a member of the Sumerian ken, and was honest in speech and action, far from saying that in doubt and his words were always said simply by clarity of mind and thought. , The landscape, the color and the sound, cautious and modest in expressing his opinion, was drafted into the IDF and reached the rank of lieutenant. He was an officer beloved by his subordinates and his officers, respected for everything without his authority, but because of his pleasant manner and inner authority. Upon returning from the army, he was the kibbutz emissary in the educational movement and among its dedicated activists. Afterwards he was a member of the kibbutz secretariat. During the Six-Day War, he fell in a battle at Umm Kataf in Sinai, where he participated as a tank commander on the second day of the fighting, on the 27th of Iyar 5727 (June 6, 1967). Was buried in the military emergency cemetery in Bari and later transferred to eternal rest in the cemetery in his kibbutz. His service was commendable and after he fell he was promoted to captain. In the 1930s, the kibbutz took out pages in his memory. In the booklet “53 of them” in memory of the fallen members of Kibbutz Artzi who fell in the Six Day War, a page was devoted to his biography. His family and friends published a pamphlet in his memory bearing his name
