Band, Israel (‘Srul’)


Ben Hanan and Doba. He was born in Safed on October 6, 1954. At the beginning of January 1974, Israel was sent to basic training, and after its conclusion was transferred to the Lebanese border and participated in daily ambushes to guard the border. Here, too, he demonstrated leadership, and without wearing ribbons on his sleeves or on his shoulders, he guided and instructed his fellow soldiers. One night. Returning from a routine ambush, he was ambushed by the vehicle in which he and his comrades were traveling, and Israel fell in the line of duty on August 10, 1974. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. Survived by his parents, sister and brother. Israel’s commander wrote to the bereaved family: “Israel was one of the pillars of our department and one of the outstanding figures in the battalion. An outstanding athlete, a good and disciplined soldier, a model for his friends. “The parents and close friends commemorated Israel’s unforgettable image in an album they published in his memory.
