Azzer, Albert (Avi)


Son of Susannah and Shalom. He was born on March 4, 1956, in Casablanca, Morocco. He is from a family of seven. According to his mother, my father was a pleasant boy who always helped the whole family. In 1962, when my father was six years old, the family immigrated to Israel and built their home in Migdal Ha’emek, where he grew up, studied and was educated. He attended the Shalom Aleichem elementary school and the Rogozin High School. He graduated with honors. My father was active in Gadna and volunteered for social and educational activities in Migdal HaEmek, where he read many books and wrote in writing, and my father was fond of listening to his grandmother’s stories and commemorating the beautiful legends and family stories he had heard from my grandmother. In the Golani Brigade in Battalion 51. Later, he was promoted to sergeant. In 1977, when he was discharged from regular service, he returned to Migdal Haemek. Once again he devoted his time to public activity, volunteered for the Civil Guard and went on to train himself as a bookkeeper. In 1981 my father married his girlfriend Stella. They widened their family and had three sons – Dedi, Tom and Shai. My father was a warm and loving family man to his wife and sons. After a period in Migdal HaEmek, the family chose to build their home in Kadim, near Jenin. My father loved his new home, the peace and quiet, the landscape and the wild beauty. To support the family he worked as an accountant and later as a sales agent in the chain stores. On December 28, 1994, my father was drafted into reserve duty in the “Shaked” unit of the “Menashe” regional brigade in Judea and Samaria. According to his friends in reserve duty, my father was a very kind and cheerful guy, a central figure in happy events. On the 15th of Shvat 5755 (15.1.1995) my father fell during his service and was put to rest in the military section of the cemetery in Migdal Haemek. He was thirty-nine when he died. Survived by Raya and three sons, parents, brother – Pinchas and five sisters – Claudine, Deborah, Evelyn, Zehava and Hedva. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the unit commander wrote: “Your loved one, my father, was a soldier, fulfilled his duties faithfully and loved to help and help.
