Azogi, Yacov (‘Jaco’)
Yacov ben Haim and Esther. He was born on the 25th of Tamuz, July 15th, 1955 in Meknes, Morocco. The family immigrated to Israel in 1962 and settled in Tirat Hacarmel. He was an outstanding student in all subjects, and composed songs from a young age. In November 1973, Yaakov was drafted into the IDF, where he was assigned to the Signal Corps, and after a few courses he was promoted to the rank of corporal. On the 15th of Iyar, May 15, 1976, Yaakov fell during his service. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa and left behind his parents, seven sisters and two brothers. Jacob’s commander wrote to the bereaved parents: “Jacob’s personality served as a model for good soldierly behavior.” His family donated a Torah scroll to commemorate his name.
