Azavi (Ze’evi), Yaakov (Jack)


Son of Rubida and David, was born on the 17th of Elul 5728 (17.8.1928) in the city of Meknes, Morocco, where he graduated from the elementary school and worked in clerks, was a lover of Zion from his youth and when he came to Israel during the War of Independence he enlisted abroad, And arrived in Israel at the height of the war, in the summer of 1948. With the Palmach he went to Jerusalem and joined the defenders of the city. He was in the “Amal” service and worked in the fortifications. Jacob was a cheerful guy who sang all day long homeland songs that he had just learned in Hebrew. Jacob fell in Ramat Rachel. A shell was damaged when a ditch was dug. In critical condition, he was brought to Bikur Cholim hospital where he died of his wounds on 10 October 1948. He was buried in Sheikh Bader A. He was only three months in the country for which he gave his life. 1950 (30.8.1950) was transferred to the eternal rest of the military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
