Avraham, Shlomo

Son of Aziza and Yechezkel, he was born on May 9, 1962, in Beit She’an, where he began his studies at the Meir religious public school and continued at the ORT Religious High School, In Beit Shean. Because he was responsible and orderly, the teachers placed him in charge of the order of the prayers and the registration of the students ‘presence, and Shlomo, despite his parents’ opposition, joined the Hashomer Hatzair youth movement and together with several friends formed an orchestra that performed at weddings and various events in the city. On the 2nd of Tammuz 5742 (23.6.1982), Shlomo fell in battle in Lebanon during the Peace for Galilee War and was brought to rest in the cemetery in Beit Shean. He left behind his parents, six brothers and four sisters. In a letter of condolence sent to the bereaved family was written: “Shlomo was a quiet and disciplined soldier who performed his job in the best possible way. Shlomo was a favorite of his commanders, members of the nucleus and the entire unit, and was willing to help and assist at any time and in every situation, and he showed exemplary fighting spirit throughout the battle.” His name is commemorated in the booklet “Path of the Generations,” which was published by a Magen formation in memory of its fallen soldiers during the Peace for Galilee War. The “Heichal Shlomo” Synagogue in the Ammon neighborhood of Beit Shean was built in his memory.
