Avitan, Liron

Daughter of Paulette and Sammy. Liron was the second daughter in the family – a sister to his uncle, Hila, Tomer and Matan, and did her elementary studies in Givat Olga – first in the “Amishav” elementary school and later in elementary school To build the “Shas” of Ma’ayan Torah Education. She continued her studies at the Tachkemoni religious high school in Hadera and completed her studies with honors. Liron was a very special girl – quiet, sensitive and very gentle. A well-groomed girl who is aware of herself and is meticulous about her appearance and dress. Her main activities were with her family, with her sister Hila and her aunts, and with her good and loving friends. She loved music very much, stood out in her diligence and did not stop smiling. “The most charming and generous girl I’ve known,” her aunt wrote, and in these words seems to have exhausted the essence of Liron. Liron has infinite and uncompromising ability to give. Even when she was soft in the years, she stood out eagerly to help her family and friends. She was always ready to lend a helping hand in every situation and to anyone, and she never refused a man. When her younger brother, Matan, was injured in a serious car accident, Yaron took care of him and became a second mother for him. She was a model and role model for her brother, with the rare dedication she displayed and the help she provided at home as much as was needed. Liron joined the Israel Defense Forces in early February 2002. She received basic training at the Zikim base and was sent to a training course in the Shimshon camp. She had not completed her last day of the course, and she had not received the certificate of excellence she had been awarded. Liron’s life was cut short and her family and loved ones were left with grief and pain. Liron fell in a terrorist attack at Megiddo Junction on June 5, 2002, while she was riding on an Egged bus on line 830 on her way to the base. The bus left Hadera for Afula and drove on Highway 65 through Megiddo Junction. Next to Megiddo Prison, a car bomb was attached to the bus, which was driven by a suicide bomber from the Islamic Jihad who blew up the car. Almost all the occupants of the bus were injured; Seventeen people were killed, including thirteen soldiers. Liron was seriously injured and taken to Haemek Hospital in Afula. When she arrived there, she died of her wounds. Four other soldiers from the “Shimshon” munitions workshop – the unit in which she served – fell in the attack: First Sergeant Eliran Buskila, Sergeant Dotan Reizel, Corporal Avraham Barzilai and Corporal Vladimir Morri. Liron was nineteen years old. She was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Hadera. Survived by parents, three brothers and a sister. After her death she was promoted to corporal. Her words engraved on her grave “We all hurt your death and we will never forget your smile.” “Dear Liron: You were a special girl and girl, I will never forget our childhood together, the family Shabbat, the events and all the laughs that accompanied us, I will never understand how an angel like you was cut off and suddenly disappeared in one day. I hope you are Simcha in your new world, but know that it is very difficult for me, misses a lot, promises never to forget, loves forever and promises to keep your name in my Lev. ” The printed and electronic press extensively covered the serious attack and illuminated the character of Liron. Members of the Avitan family commemorated Liron in a variety of activities: a library in her name was established at the Shas school in Givat Olga and a Torah scroll was donated to the synagogue in the Tachkemoni religious high school in Hadera. The celebrations were attended by Liron’s commanders, friends, family and people from the Hadera Municipality and the Israeli government, and Liron is also commemorated at the monument erected at the Megiddo junction,The names of all those killed in the attack. The family wrote: “Dear Liron, forever you will stay young, love you very much, miss you and hurt – all your family and your friends”
