Atia, Zvi


Zvi, ben Dinah and Yehoshua, was born on the 24th of Elul, September 6, 1950 in Moshav Sharsheret. Zvi was ordained as a teacher at the Lifshitz Seminar in Jerusalem. He had a strong character and was meticulous in observing all the commandments, and served as an example to his friends. He was a devoted son and caring brother and a source of pride for his family. At the end of August 1970 and assigned to the Armored Corps and after completing basic training and reconnaissance courses, He completed his regular service two months before the outbreak of the Yom Kippur War. In the summer of 1973 he studied for a preparatory course in Physics and Mathematics for discharged soldiers at Bar-Ilan University and graduated cum laude. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, Zvi had not yet been stationed in a reserve unit and realized that it would take time for him to be called. He participated in the war in the Sinai On the 24th of Tishrei 5740, October 10th 1973, he participated in the difficult battle in Fayyad, and during the battle his armored personnel carrier was injured and Zvi was hit and killed. He was brought to eternal rest in the Mount of Olives cemetery. Survived by his parents, six brothers and five sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant. His family donated a Torah scroll to the synagogue in Moshav Chaim.
