Arnon, Aaron-Noam (“Ami”)
Son of Pinchas and Chava. Born in Haifa on 10.10.1950, he studied at the “Alliance Israelite Universelle” elementary school in Haifa and continued his high school studies at the same institution, and until the 10th grade he was a member of the Hashomer Hatzair youth movement “In Neve Sha’anan, he was an excellent athlete, but mainly dealt with swimming and soccer, and he also traveled extensively throughout the country, and since he was a child, he was loved by everyone because of his willingness to help his friends with his lessons. October 1968 and volunteered for the Air Force. At the end of October 1970 he joined the career army. Ami’s great dream was to be a pilot. In the course he had many difficulties, but strong willpower and relentless diligence brought about the fulfillment of his dream. At the end of July 1972 he was going to marry his wife, but he did not get it. On the 11th of Tammuz, 5762 (23.6.1972), Lieutenant Ami fell in the line of duty and his burial place is unknown. In his memory, Zion was placed in the Missing Persons section of the cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. One of his classmates wrote in Ami’s memory, among other things: “I knew that Ami would succeed in the pilot course, because he excelled in wonderful qualities of courage, self-confidence and intelligence – on the one hand, and on the other – honesty and integrity. As well as classical music and literature, and in his room there was a Brahms record that was inseparable from a history of aviation. ” The commander of his unit wrote a letter of condolence to his parents: “I would like to point out that Ami instructed his navigator to abandon the plane while he remained inside the plane in order to rescue him from the state of spin he was in.” Ami himself abandoned the plane only when it was clear to him, Beyond doubt, that a rescue option no longer exists, and that this was beyond the requirements of a pilot. ” His family published a book called “Ami” in his memory. This fallen hero is a “maklan” – a hero whose burial place is unknown.
