Arava, Shalom
Was born on February 2, 2525, in the Yemenite Moshav Nahliel near Hadera, where he studied in an elementary school, where he studied for a year in Yeshivah in Hadera and continued his studies – first in Tel Aviv In the “Tachkemoni” school, and later in the teachers’ seminary of “Hamizrahi” in Jerusalem, during the Second World War he enlisted in the British Army, joined the Engineers Corps, served in the Western Desert and spent the days of the battles in Tripoli and its environs. And returned to his home to bear the burden of the family, and Shalom did not settle for work alone and exploited his talents for extensive and dedicated instruction among the local youth. He returned to Nahliel and worked in the electric company, and he also worked for the local youth, and he loved sports, wrestling and winning. From the beginning of the War of Independence he was in the service of the Hagana and later in Brigade 7. He participated in Operation son of-Nun II – the second attempt to conquer the Latrun Legion in order to break through the road to Jerusalem. During the retreat he heard the scream of one of the comrades who was wounded. After a long distance he was hit by a bullet in the head and he was killed on the spot. The wounded man managed to crawl to the unit and be saved. Thus he gave his life under the soul of his friend. He fell on May 31, 1948. He was buried in Na’an. On May 18, 1950, he was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Netanya.
