Andr, Ikotiel-Zucia
Son of Israel – Aaron and Roza – Deborah. He was born on the 24th of Elul 5702 (August 24, 1950) in Bytom, Poland, and immigrated to Israel with his family in the year of his birth. He attended elementary school (“Talmud Torah”) “Yavne” in Haifa, and from there moved to the high school yeshiva in Kiryat Shmuel – “Pirchi Aharon”. He was loved by his friends and teachers and everyone he knew liked him. He was drafted into the IDF in late July 1968 and joined the Nahal paramedics. After that, he moved to the new outpost “Mevo Horon” on the other side of the Green Line. While in service, he was injured in the leg and ear, but did his best not to disqualify him as a combat soldier and to allow him to continue his service. He took on a role and filled it with great love. His loyalty to the homeland was immeasurably greater. During his service, he underwent a combat paramedics course and served in Sharm el-Sheikh and the Arava. He was naturally friendly, ready to help everyone as a person and as a medic. He was full of joy and self-confidence. He was devoted to the house and took care of his parents and letters to reassure them and told them that he was in a quiet place. On the 5th of Elul 5709 (5.9.1969) he died in a mine in the Paran region while carrying out his duties. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Haifa. The commander of his unit sent a letter of condolence to his parents, saying: “Your son was one of the pillars of the company in which he served, and his devotion to the mission and the desire to succeed placed him on the front line of the unit’s fighters. His friends published a booklet called “Yedid Nefesh” in his memory.
