Amnon (Shimon) Arieli
Son of Yisrael and Chana, Amnon was born on May 30, 1954, in a hospital in Hadera. Born and educated in Netanya, where he studied at Yavneh Elementary School, he continued his studies at the Bnei Akiva high school. He was loved by his teachers and friends, and according to the director of the yeshiva he excelled in his resourcefulness and willingness to help others. He was an active member of the Bnei Akiva youth movement in Netanya. As a sports enthusiast, Amnon nurtured his talents in a number of sports, and won many medals and certificates of excellence. He was a trusted friend and friend at any time. Amnon was drafted into the IDF at the end of November 1972 and volunteered to serve in the paratroop brigade, as part of the “Harel” nucleus of the Bnei Akiva movement. After completing his basic training, he took part in a course for machine-gun operators and a course for tank drivers and spent his operational service as a tank driver in the Armored Corps, with the rank of Corporal. Later on, Amnon was stationed with the rest of the core group in the “Alumim” kibbutz and worked for a long period of time in the metalwork shop, where he became attached to the kibbutz and decided to tie his future here after completing his service in the army. On 14.8.1975 he was critically injured in a road accident while performing his duties and died on 16.8.1975. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Netanya. Survived by his parents and two brothers. His parents set up a memorial plaque bearing his name in the synagogue where he prayed. In the book Yizkor Lebenuinu, his memory is commemorated with the other Netanyaites who fell in the Israeli wars.
