Amani, Aryeh


Son of Elsa and Emil was born on 9.7.1930 in Munich, Germany. When he was seven years old, he immigrated to Israel with his parents who settled in Pardes Hanna, and Aryeh July 17-18, 1948, towards the beginning of the second truce, the “Haemek” Battalion seized Shilat and controlled the eastern part of the Krikor ridge to threaten the wing of the legion in Latrun. In the morning it became clear that the Legion force was holding the western part of the ridge. The enemy attacked the force in the outpost from two directions with the aid of armored vehicles, and that was forced to withdraw. In the harsh retreat in an open area under crossfire, many of the fighters fell. Aryeh excelled in action and breathed a battle in the hearts of his comrades. When he was wounded, his two good friends from the school, who together with him joined the settlement nucleus, wanted to remove him from the battlefield, but the enemy shell hit all three of them and they were killed on the spot on the 18th of July 1948. On the 11th of Adar 5702 (28.2.1950) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
