Alkim, Tal

Alkim, Tal

Son of Tamara and Ofer. He was born on October 25, 1977 in Netanya, the first grandson of Alex Vienna Berko and fifth grandson of David and Yael Elkim. An older brother to Raz. Tal enlisted in compulsory service in March 1996 and volunteered for the paratroopers. It was important for him to be with volunteers because he thought they were the good guys. During basic training he insisted that photography was an important part of the army and since there was no photography team in the Paratroopers Brigade, he wanted to be the brigade photographer. Tal was able to serve in the position for about a year and headed a team that filmed and documented all the events of the brigade, from graduation ceremonies to shooting exercises and other special events. Tal fell during his duty on 20 June 1997 in a car accident that occurred on the Amiad-Kadarim road, while the crew made its way back from an exercise photograph on the Lebanese border. After his death, Tal was promoted to sergeant. He was twenty years old when he died. He was laid to rest at the Netanya military cemetery. Survived by his parents and brother.
