Agavas, Ovadia

Ovadia, son of Shoshana and Sa’id z “l, was born on 21 April 1949 in Yemen and immigrated to Israel with his family in that year. Ovadia was humble and kind, loved to help others, and was accepted by his friends as a compromise man, called to make peace between them whenever they did not reach a compromise. His life was well established, sound and serious, but with a good spirit, humor and lightness, and his inner perfection was naturally evident in his religious outlook and lifestyle. Ovadia was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early November 1967. After completing basic training, he was appointed as a driver and then a gunner in a tank, and was an excellent, responsible and dedicated gunman. After graduating, he studied at the Technion’s preparatory program in Haifa and after successfully completing his studies in electrical engineering at son of Gurion University in the Negev – but the Yom Kippur War cut short his studies. On 22 Tishrei (18.10.1973) the tank was damaged in a battle in the Sinai. After the body was found and identified many months later, he was laid to rest in the cemetery in Ra’anana, leaving behind a mother, five brothers and two sisters.
