Agassi, Aryeh


Son of Elimelech and Hannah. He was born on 11.4.1947 in Kibbutz Gvat. He began his studies in elementary school, but at the end of the year his parents moved to Yif’at, where he graduated from elementary and high school, where he completed his high school years, and was naturally quiet and inconspicuous among his friends. He wrote a letter to his girlfriend saying that on one vacation he “jumped” home to get some air and from this brief visit gathered strength for the following week, so much so that he loved the house and, at the end of his studies, , During the third year of service, and he guided dozens of students, from whom they went to Grofit and from which they constitute a training nucleus designated for them In November 1966 he was drafted into the IDF and volunteered for service in the Paratroopers Brigade. After a year or so, he was sent to a squad commanders’ course and later worked with his unit in various activities: in the Six Day War, in the Karameh operation, in ambushes and in various pursuits, in the role of sergeant of a platoon. On June 11, 1969, he fell in pursuit of a terrorist squad in the Jordan Valley and was brought to eternal rest at the cemetery in Yifat, where he said: “You arrived at a magnificent unit and after a short training period, I remember your doubts when I got the job, I can tell you now that everything you did was done in the best possible way. You have learned to understand your soldiers and achievements, and in your encounters you have kept your cool and taught us all what is self-control and commitment to the task. In spite of the difficulties on the ground, you gave an alert order and thereby saved casualties, but you did not save yourself. ” He said goodbye to him on behalf of the unit commander and soldiers “with grief and pride.” After his fall, his friends took out a booklet bearing the name “Aryeh”.
