Abutbul, Moshe


Moses, the son of Miriam and Joseph, was born on the 5th of Tishrei 5713 (5.10.1952) in Zichron Yaakov. He studied at the elementary school in Zichron Yaakov and later continued at the high school in the “Neurim” boarding school near Netanya. Moshe was devoted to his family and a loyal friend of his friends. He was a kind man who was willing to dedicate his life to the benefit of others and acted according to the commandment of “Love thy neighbor as thyself.” After completing his studies in the automotive mechanics program, he went to work to help support his family. He worked as a mechanic on the ship “Shoham”. Moshe was drafted into the IDF at the beginning of November 1970, when he was only 17. He was appointed to the supply force and served as a heavy truck driver, and in August 1972 he was discharged from regular service and assigned to a reserve unit of the Artillery Corps. He married his girlfriend and set up their home in Tel Aviv, where their eldest daughter was born. Moshe was a loyal husband and devoted father. He was the head of a loving and caring family, who invested all his energy and energy in order to benefit his family. He worked as a mechanic at the electric company and after a long and arduous day of work, he treated his crippled wife and little daughter. In his few spare hours, he was active in sports, mainly table tennis and soccer. During the Yom Kippur War, his unit participated in the battles of containment and infiltration against the Syrians in the Golan Heights. On the 17th of Tishrei 5734 (October 13, 1973) the unit was subject to heavy shelling by the enemy. Many of the unit’s soldiers were injured in the shelling and had to be transferred to the collection stations for the wounded in the rear. Moshe volunteered to drive the evacuation jeep. He drove the vehicle with a number of wounded, who were in critical condition and led the jeep to the collection station, all under heavy fire. On their way to the rear, the vehicle was hit and Moshe was killed. His downfall in the battle took away the family from her only support and left her without the devoted husband and the loving father. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Zichron Yaakov. Survived by his wife, daughter, parents and three brothers. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the unit commander wrote: “Moshe, who fulfilled all his duties faithfully, fell while volunteering to evacuate the wounded. His friends and commanders will remember him forever. “His family and friends planted a garden in his memory in Zichron Yaakov.
