Zygelbojm, Yacov (Yasha)
Yacov ben Lyubov and Asher. Yaakov was born in Romania on the 8th of Shevat, January 18, 1940. He grew up and was educated in Romania, where he studied and was ordained as a doctor, and in 1972 he immigrated to Israel and began working at Assaf Harofeh Hospital, He served in the Israel Prison Service and served as the Chief Medical Officer of the Service. At a later stage as Acting Head of the Department of Medicine and Rehabilitation, and as Head of the Medical Department. On the 10th of Iyar, Wednesday, May 6, 1998, on his way to the IPS Prison in Ramle, Brigadier General Dr. Yakov died in the explosion of his vehicle, in which assassins had placed an explosive device. Yaakov fell in the line of duty at fifty-eight years old and was laid to rest in the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul, Tel Aviv. Survived by his wife and four children. The IPS Medical Center is named after him.
