Zweig, Shmuel


Son of Rachel and Fishel, was born in 1911 in the city of Wadowice, Poland. He attended high school, joined Hashomer Hatzair and was in training. He immigrated to Israel on the “Tiger Hill” ship in 1939 and joined Kibbutz Dan. Soon he joined the British Army. He was captured by the Germans and spent six years in a POW camp. Upon his return he returned to Israel in 1945. He married a wife and began a civilian life. The couple lived in the Aviva neighborhood of Rishon Letzion and Shmuel worked in the “Tablin” oil factory. Continued to maintain ties with the defense forces and was a lively and active member of the Haganah. In the summer of 1948, he enlisted in the Givati ​​Brigade, and two months later he fell. On the night of the 28th of Cheshvan 5708 (30.11.1948) After a night watch at the outpost of Falluja, he went to sleep and an enemy bullet entered the tent and killed him in his sleep. The next day he was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Rishon Letzion. He left behind a wife, an animal. A few days after his fall, his sister, the sole survivor of the family, was brought to Israel.
