Zussman (Noam), Meir


Son of Yael and Shaul HaCohen. He was born on December 20, 1921 in Berlin, the capital of Germany, and in 1925 immigrated with his family to Eretz Israel. The family settled in Jerusalem, where Meir studied at the Tachkemoni School and the Hebrew Gymnasium in Rehavia, Jerusalem. During the 1936-1939 riots he joined the Haganah and participated in many activities in the Beit Hakerem neighborhood. In 1940 he began his studies in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the Hebrew University with the intention of continuing his studies in agriculture. Together with tens of thousands of Eretz Israel Jews, Meir enlisted in the British Army and during his military service was injured in Italy in a car accident. Due to his injuries, he underwent many treatments in military and civilian hospitals. After his discharge from the British army in 1947, Meir completed his studies at the Institute of Agricultural Studies at the Hebrew University and was awarded the title of Master. On the 12th of Tishrei (October 12, 1947), he died as a result of his injuries in the British army and was laid to rest in the cemetery on the Mount of Olives. His biography was written in the book “Beit Hakerem in the 40s, 1923-1963”.
