Zuckerman, Yuval

Zuckerman, Yuval

Son of Shmuel and Ilana. He was born on February 1, 1956 in Afula. His family moved to Be’er Sheva where he completed his studies at the Degania elementary school. When he had to decide which way he would go, he chose to attend the military boarding school. He was accepted to a boarding school and completed his high school studies in the social studies program at the Herzliya Gymnasium in Tel Aviv. His life in the boarding school was not easy. The combination of theoretical studies and military training after them was a crowded and arduous agenda, and when he told what he was going through it was evident that despite the hardships, he enjoyed the many experiences he had with his fellow students. More than that, he enjoyed the jump course he underwent in the boarding school. After the fall, the commander of the boarding school wrote: “Yuval was able to express himself in much more study, but he found more interest in the fields of boarding school and society, he had a sense of humor and he had a captivating mischievousness. Of values and striving for peace. ” “I can not forget my first meeting with Yuval, Yuval was stuck at the first table under my nose, I studied him long, coal-tanned, broad-shouldered, all muscular, eyes searching, and a charming smile on his face. Even today I see that smile, as if something was needed to protect it from harm, and Yuval loved the class, the friends and the special atmosphere, and I felt that he was screwing into the system. The commander of the boarding school went on to write: “When I remember today, a distance of years, in Yuval, the first characteristic I see is kindness in the broadest sense of the word, that eternal smile, the same good spirit, the willingness to lend a hand. The courage to cope with challenges, the willingness to make an effort to reach the goal line of every mission, and if I have to point out the worthy Israeli youth who must contribute beyond the accepted guidelines, “The image of Yuval, engraved in my memory, is that of a boy who always has a broad, Lev smile that expressed kindness and love. He was always Simcha, optimistic and full of good will, he was always amusing to those around him, so there were always many around him, and they were sure they would have the satisfaction, the hope and the joy. Yuval was honest and decent, could not say anything that was not complete with him or was not true, those who speak frankly are never wrong … “Yuval was drafted into the IDF in early November 1974 and volunteered to serve in the Paratroopers Brigade After basic training, and after passing a course for squad commanders, he was assigned to the unit as a squad commander. His subordinates loved him and his commanders appreciated his work, and after a short time he was sent to a course for infantry officers, where he successfully passed the officers’ course and was awarded the rank of lieutenant. Then he was sent to the unit where he served as a platoon commander. On May 23, 1977, Yuval was killed in a helicopter crash in the Jordan Valley, where 54 soldiers were killed and taken to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Be’er Sheva. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the unit commander wrote: “You belong to the magnificent paratrooper family that sacrificed sacrifices Many on the altar of the security of the people and the state, and I hope that thanks to your son and brother the paratroopers we will not know another war. The battalion’s soldiers will continue to follow the path he ordered”In memory of Yuval and his friends – Amnon Hagar and Shlomo Leibowitz – the families of Mitzpeh Nof, not far from Kibbutz Ma’aleh Hahamisha, established the memorial ceremony in honor of the three,” said Yogev, director of the Herzliya Gymnasium. We will remember Amnon with his laughter, his clowning and good Lev, remember Yuval in his enchanting expression, with his good smile and his promising gaze, remember him in his arguments, in his cleverness And even if Amnon, Yuval, and Shlomo do not go there anymore, their spirit will hover here, and the souls of the boys and the young men We will also have a good smile on them, kindness, purity and grace, and knowing this we felt a slight easing of our grief … “
