Zuckerman, Shlomo
Son of Bella and Hershko, was born in 1929 in the city of Stefanesti, Romania. During the Second World War he fought the Nazi invader as an underground member of the Gordonia movement in Romania and was wounded. In 1947 he immigrated to Israel on a ship called “Max Nordau” (Smyrna), served in the Palmach and worked as a tractor operator in the Nir Negev group in the Negev. During the War of Independence he participated in the cleansing of the surrounding villages and the blocking of the road to the Egyptian invader. While he was standing next to the tractor in the yard, the enemy bombers appeared, and while trying to drive the tractor to a safe place, he was hit by a bomb that was dropped and fell on the day of 8 May 1948. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Nir Am.
