When he returned with wounded legs he smiled and said that he was satisfied that he had prevented pain from his friend. He was a member of Kibbutz Yagur (the “Magshimim” group) and since then he used to visit there frequently, seeing the kibbutz as his future way of life. He wanted to expand his knowledge and excel in his studies. When the War of Independence broke out, he was able to leave the service because he was an only child, but he did not use this right by saying that there is no difference between a son and a son. He enlisted and served in the Yiftah Brigade. Nachum fell in the Galilee, where he aspired to settle, among Malkia onthe 6th of Iyar, May 15, 1948.
