Zuckerman, Aharon (Aharla)
Son of Nechama and Yerachmiel, was born on 26 July 1902 in the town of Mezrich, Poland, to a family of devout Hasidim. As a child he studied in the “cheder”. He specialized in seamstress work, and unlike most of the Jewish workers in his town, he did not get carried away by the Bund, but organized the working Zionist youth and was a loyalist of the Freiheit Zionist Socialist movement. He was one of the founders of the YH Library. Brenner instead. From Freiheit he moved to the Po’alei Zion party. In 1933 he immigrated to Israel and settled in Tel Aviv. Although he encountered, like others, the difficulties of getting involved, he increased his public activities, began to organize the immigrants from his city, collected donations and helped the needy. By the time he regained his profession, he worked temporarily in a leather factory and in paving roads. He was a member of the Haganah from the day of his aliya and volunteered for the Special Police. Aharon fell at the door of his home in a school neighborhood on the Jaffa-Tel Aviv border on December 9, 1947. The house was hit by a barrage of gunfire and he tried to save the property, while the murderers’ bullets grabbed him and knocked him down. He was buried in the Nahalat Yitzhak cemetery. He left behind a wife, Zahava, and a daughter, Yonah. On the 23rd of Elul 5714 (23.9.1954) he was put to rest at the military cemetery in the area.
