Zucker, Shimon

Son of Zissel and Yitzhak. He was born in 1918 in the city of Lublin, Poland, and immigrated to Israel with his family as a member of the Third Aliya in 1931-1933. Upon his arrival in Israel, he joined the Haganah, was a member of the General Zionist Workers’ Union and worked for two years in the editorial board of the morning newspaper. At the outbreak of the bloody riots of 1936-1939, Shimon, as an added policeman, enlisted in the Guard Corps and stood guard for the protection of the Jewish residents and their places of residence wherever they were sent, especially in neighborhoods along the Tel Aviv-Jaffa border. Some residents of the area said that they feel safe when Shimon is around. It contributed to improving the atmosphere and raising morale among the Jewish residents and was used to advise and resolve any dispute. In 1938, he was attached to the Royal Forestry Battalion, which was based in Bat Galim near Haifa. On 15 Iyar, May 7, 1939, Shimon was killed while carrying out a military car loaded with gasoline cans in which he was riding, overturned near Binyamina and caught fire. Shimon was brought to eternal rest in the old cemetery in Hadera. He left two parents, two brothers and a sister.
