Zoltolov, Shlomo
Son of Shoshana and Baruch-Moshe, he was born in 1913 in the town of Ciechanowicz, Poland. In 1939 he arrived on the shores of Tel Aviv on the illegal immigrant ship “Parita.” Shlomo worked in the Betar company in Rosh Pina and settled finally in Ramat Gan. There he joined the Irgun and took part in the organization’s activities against the British. In the War of Independence Shlomo joined the IDF as a battalion medic although the doctors rejected him for active duty. As soon as he entered the army, he took part in the breakthrough to the Negev. On the 7th of Heshvon, November 7, 1948, on his way out of the armored vehicle to help the victims of the battle Shlomo was seriously wounded by a shell that hit the armored vehicle. He lost his leg and died in severe agony. His last words were,”Save and protect my son that he should grow up”. Shlomo was brought to rest in the military cemetery in the village of Warburg and was survived by a wife and child.
