Zohar, Shlomo
Born in 1929 in the city of Sali, Morocco, and educated in a public school. He worked as a tailor. From his youth he aspired to immigrate to Eretz Israel and was therefore organized into an “East” group of Zionist youth. When he realized that there was no chance of legal immigration, he decided to flee from Morocco and immigrate to Israel. One evening in June 1947, when he returned home from work, he informed his mother that he was going to the cinema, and without taking anything, he left the house, crossed the border between Morocco and Algeria, and from there found the way to the illegal immigration. He boarded one of the illegal immigrant ships and although the ship was captured by the British, he was Simcha when he was exiled to Cyprus, for he saw Cyprus as the last stop in Palestine. He also tried to shorten his stay there and was caught trying to escape, but was finally allowed to leave the camp before his turn. In Israel he joined Kibbutz Regavim. Stood out as the most active among all his fellow Aliyah members and bought him many friends. He became fond of all his knowledge. At the beginning of the War of Independence, he enlisted in the Palmach and was sent to the front of Jerusalem and fell in Kiryat Anavim on the 3rd of June 1948. He was buried in Sheikh Bader Aleph. On the 28th of Elul 5710 (10.9.1950) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem
