Zohar, Ronen (Roni)
Son of Jacqueline and Prosper, he was born on August 11, 1963 in Migdal Ha’Emek. His father, a regular army soldier, was one of the founders of the town and from childhood he educated his son to love the country and the IDF. Ronen attended the Shalom Aleichem elementary school and the Rogozin vocational high school, ,He successfully passed a diving course in Gadna and won “diving wings”. In the summer of 1981, Ronen was drafted into the IDF and volunteered to serve in the Paratroopers Brigade. On his service, his commanders said “In basic training he stood out as a good and disciplined soldier, a leader by nature, helped his comrades in a parachuting course and in intensive training.” After nine months of service in the Paratroopers Brigade, Ronen embarked on a war for the Galilee. On June 10, 1982, he participated in a battle near the city of Damur, was wounded and transferred in a difficult condition to the hospital in Haifa. For 40 days, Ronen fought for his life, but on the 1st of Av 5742 (July 20, 1982) died of his wounds, at the age of 19. Ronen was laid to rest at the cemetery in Migdal Ha’emek. He left behind his parents, brother and two sisters.
