Zlata, Meir (Zelig)

Son of Yosef and Adina. He was born on the 23rd of Iyar, May 12, 1939, in Syria. The family came to Israel in 1948. In Israel, he studied in elementary school in Haifa, and then at the Bat Galim vocational school. He enlisted in the IDF in April, 1957 in the navy. He died on the 1st of Iyar, April 29, 1968, as a result of burns on the Seder night. He left a wife and daughter. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery, in Haifa. The commander of his unit wrote to the family, in a condolence letter, stating that “Meir came a long way in the army, a good soldier who was very disciplined, with a will and initiative, and was always ready to listen to advice, and help in any way possible.
