Zipori (Vogelman), Chaim

Son of Sarah and Hillel Fogelman. He was born in 1903 in Kremenchug, Russia, later joined the Zionist movement and was the organizer of the Hashomer Hatzair youth movement in his hometown, and in 1921 immigrated to Eretz Israel and immediately began to work in paving roads in Borochov and Tel Aviv. When he came to Israel and joined the Haganah, he later joined a group of the Jerusalem Brigade of the “Gdud Ha’avoda” and from Jerusalem moved to Tel Hai, which he had hoped for ever since his arrival in Israel. He worked in mechanics and sports and was one of the founders of Hapoel, and his main occupation was in security matters. In the framework of the Haganah, he was involved in the production of primitive bombs, and on 24.6.1938 he served in Mishmar HaYarden as a sergeant for the Haganah. A shot from the ambush hit him and he was seriously injured, and for eight days he suffered from his pain until he died of the wounds on 2 Tammuz, 1.7.1938. He was brought to rest among his fellow guards in Kfar Giladi. He left a wife, two daughters and a son. The gymnasium in Kfar Giladi is called “Beit Zippori” in its memory.
