Zion, David

Son of Yehuda and Rivka. He was born on January 3, 1927 in Jerusalem, to an old family, residents of Gaza and Hebron. He attended the boys’ school. Later he worked as a tire repairman and driver. Was a member of the Haganah. During the War of Independence he would leave convoys from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and once he was left alone in the middle of the road guarding a freight car that had been damaged by an attack at Sha’ar Hagai. At the time they gave notice of this, he was able to repair it himself and drive it to Jerusalem alone. Was one of the first to be sent to guard the Hadassah buildings on Mount Scopus and one of the organizers of the attacks on Wadi Joss. He was wounded several times, and never waited until he recovered, because if he went out to do his duty, as if nothing had happened. Participated in the Ramat Rachel and Abu Tor systems. At the end of the war, on the 19th of Tammuz 5709 (19.7.1949), when he drove friends to Sodom, the car overturned and during the time of this duty he was wounded and died of his wounds. He was laid to rest in the Petah Tikva cemetery
