Dov-Eliyahu, son of Bella and Moshe, was born on 22 July 1952 in Ashkelon as the last descendant of a family of cantors, most of whose sons perished in World War II. The first three years of his life were spent in Ashkelon, and after that the family moved to Hadar Yosef, where Dov was sent to the local religious school. He completed his elementary studies at the Alshich School in Hadar Yosef, and completed his high school studies at the “Noam” Midrasha in Pardes Hanna. Dov was drafted into the IDF in mid-November 1970. He was offered to serve as a religious sergeant, but he chose to join a combat unit, where he completed a tank artillery course and a tank course, in addition to serving in the unit as a soldier.
