Zina, Yosef

Son of Shalom and Maatuka. He was born on May 24, 1927, in Tiberias. The sixth generation in Israel; He descended to one of the first families to immigrate to Israel and joined in the building of the city (Tiberias). He studied at the “Talmud Torah” of the Sephardim and later in elementary school. After graduating he studied carpentry, where he earned a living and was the only supporter of his family. From the age of 14, he was a member of the Haganah, because of his father, who took part in the most dangerous work in the Hagana, was exemplary. Even when he was in the army, he showed devotion and loyalty to his people and his country and fulfilled every task he was given with joy and recognition that he was doing his duty to the homeland. Joseph was scornful of death, and when his mother begged him to be careful, he answered her bravely, “It is good to die for our country, the land of our forefathers.” He was kind, gentle-minded, modest and quiet in spirit. On the 17th of Nisan, 5712 (12.4.1951), he fell in the line of duty and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Tiberias, to commemorate his memory his parents named the synagoge after him
