Zilberndl, Yitzhak


Son of Miriam and Avraham-Zvi, was born on October 17, 1926 in Haifa. Due to the difficult condition of the family, he was forced to stop his studies after the ninth grade. When he was 16, he served as a guard around Haifa. When he was 17, he enlisted in the British army after pleading with his mother to testify that he was 18. He was attached to the Jewish Brigade and participated in various activities in Egypt, Italy, Belgium, and more. At the outbreak of the War of Independence he came to the defense of the Yishuv, served as a lieutenant colonel and was finally sent to the Galilee as a specialist in the mines and fell there on 21 November 1948. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Rosh Pina.
