Zidband, Yosef (Yossi)


Son of Esther and David, was born on April 26, 1928 in Haifa, where he studied at the “Reali” school and went on to study at the Geula School. From the age of ten he was a member of the Scouts movement and from 1945 he was a member of the Haganah in Haifa, and in October 1946 he went to a trained hachshara of the Scouts in Beit Hashita and served in the Palmach. He quickly became involved in the work of the farm and devoted himself to it, but was particularly fond of his friends with his cheerfulness and humor. He held various security positions and in August 1947 was sent to guard the water line in the Negev, but out of longing for the company returned two months later. He stayed with his group for a short time in Ein Gev and was transferred with her to Palestine in February 1948. He participated in “purchasing” from the British army in favor of the Haganah, and on Sunday, March 12, 1948, In a company position with two friends in a van. As they passed by a plant, Arabs opened fire on them and Joseph and one of his friends were killed by these shots. He was buried in Degania Aleph. On the 16th of Kislev 5711 (November 16, 1950) he was transferred to the eternal rest of the military cemetery in Haifa.
