Zerubavel, Ovadia
Ovadia, son of Hanna and Yehezkel Zerubavel, was born on the 29th of Iyar, 1929 in Jerusalem. Ovadia was engaged in escorting convoys to the isolated Jewish settlements, as a fighter and a medic. When he returned with a convoy from Kfar Etzion, the cars were stopped near a checkpoint near Bethlehem. In the course of dealing with the removal of a mine, one of the members was injured. Ovadia jumped out of the car to bandage his wounds, and during the course of helping the friend he was also injured and fell on 2 Shevat 5708 (13 January 1948.) The convoy continued on its way and the bodies of the two fallen remained and were not brought to burial. On Har Herzl in Jerusalem there is a miklan-a space for a fallen soldier whose burial place is unknown.
