Zeitune, Eli

Eli, son of Rachel (Rachel) and Jacques, was born on October 22, 1952 in Beirut, Lebanon, where he completed his elementary studies in Beirut, where he also completed his studies at the Alliance School. After finishing his basic and professional training, he was appointed a tank-gunner. Although at first the training was exhausting and the studies difficult, Eli, with his perseverance and learning ability, succeeded in successfully passing the courses sent to them. He was an excellent crewman and his commanders finished his praises. He devoted his holidays to the family and to the planning of his future, for he dreamed of engaging in political activity after completing his studies. Eli often corresponded with his family and took every opportunity to announce his safety. There was no shadow of concern in his parents’ hearts because they knew that his future was assured and that his talents, perseverance and determined determination would stand in his way. When the Yom Kippur War broke out Eli was with his unit on the Sinai front. On October 6, 1973, his tank was hit and Eli was burned all over his body and he was transferred to Beilinson Hospital for fourteen long days and tortured for his life, and the family sat next to him and prayed for his recovery, but all the efforts of the doctors and his desperate war He died on the 24th of Tishrei 5734 (October 20, 1973), standing next to his bedside with his father, brother, sister and brother-in-law, who was brought to eternal rest in the Kiryat Shaul cemetery and buried next to his two cousins He left behind his parents, three sisters and a brother, and was promoted to the rank of sergeant.
